I first stated this project with the proposal and understanding of the project, stating that I should keep my Research reasonable and relevant. My first understanding built from looking into the anatomy of type, I leaned a lot from this page. It allowed me to learn what makes type type. I was glad I researched this at first as it was a great booster to understanding typography. To then develop my research further, I hadn’t any ideas so I thought to look into the history. It was very interesting looking at how different types came and go. Now I had built some knowledge, I went to comparing type. Separating the difference of what type it what. Using my knowledge from the anatomy of type to compare what I can, this is where I had learnt different type gives many different effects. My first art exhibit was the sakaria studio, this was a great this to start off as there design was so creative. I was very interested in the queer type T-shirt’s and what they represent, this was where I first through to involve textiles. I next had some experiments of different media’s. I was able to acknowledge what made each one stand out and what effect it makes. I then looked into artists like Saul bass and barbra Kruger, I had mentioned I wanted to look into Saul bass so I thought it was important to do so. I liked looking at what he did and encorporating it into my own artist reflecting, I was able to take on board his typographic art. We’d be set interesting tastes that make us think, my favourite was next, the found type. It was about understanding typography in how it grows or forms naturally

We looked at a different type of typography, Sarah king. I’d love his collection of words and how it builds the image, it was like images but with words, we took the chance to respond and have a go, this helped to include software into this working on the screen, I then used that illustrator to try different types, trying to expand my experiences with creating type. My ideas of including my interest of fashion and textiles, I had to research. I had a look At a wide range of ideas type can be imbedded into textiles. Following my interests, primary research i gathered Kathryn Hamnett, I loved her movement of the shirts and how they can wear the words to emphasise what there trying to say. Ellen Lipton and javier mariscal were interesting artists witch lead to an inspired type piece, this was also when I sprung the idea of mixing some sort of javier mariscals type with Saul bass’s. Same process with Nevill broody, I was able to show an inspired image aswell, reflecting back and forth from the breif and previous testing, I wanted to try hand-rendered type

I then had a great task on quote imagery,
Expressing letters with thumbnails and the imagery of what quotes are trying to convey. I felt after my research I had some ideas than I needed to put down as my initial ideas, some of them came to just ideas popping in my head. I liked this as I was able to get all my ideas down and explain what I had in mind, this helped funnel my research to keep it relevant to what I want my ideas to built into.
Brands have typography involved, we talked over how they convey what they want, and how certain letters/shapes and symbols can embed in our mind to remember a brand, like McDonald’s. As I was trying to guide my research in the right way due to my initial ideas, I looked at Jewelry artist and what makes there art unique, original, possible. That followed into more artist research on wire work artists, these were easy and important in the long run as I used wire in my pieces.

My next plan was developing my ideas, started of with experimenting wire lettering, specifically for the chain idea, seeing what’s works and what’s easier. These helps as they are a starting off using wire. As I looked at the wire it brought I could use some sort of metal for the letters, having more solid metal rather than wires could clean it up, and improve its strength and so I had to look into some sort of metal casting, pewter casting. I looks reasonable and interesting, but cost and time wise I couldn’t. It was good looking ad the low temp of pewter to cast it easy. A popular artist piped up Stephan sagmeister, a really interesting American pop artist/ typographer.

Extending my my interests into the textual idea I decided to do some eperement into sewing with the thread and embroidery material, testing always helps build understanding of the material your looking at.

An interesting research task I got was a video called ‘wake up and smell the font’ witch really opened up my eyes into what type first makes you feel when you look at it, and the unconscious thought you don’t realise when looking at a font, this really effected the way I looked at type.

I had a look at some unique art, that gave me ideas that linked with what I could experiment, Gabriel dawe with his Rainbow thread model to build a smooth colour change and block image. And manrizio anzeri with is interesting thread mask work. More in depth material experimenting explored type that could smell or a word related to what it smelt like. This was fun and was a joy to do. I had a look at digitally rendered type working with illustrator recreations and fontstruct, I like the website as it was simple to use and you were able to custom and save your own alphabets.

I tried to squeeze as much artist exploration in as possible befor developing ideas, looking at Marian bantjes and oded ezer, they had some creative type that I felt was relevant to some types I have been trying to develop. My next developing ideas was continuing my chain idea, witch helped as I found some great ideas at this point I was still using the thicker wire and embolden some ideas I had gathered from artists. Before my next experiments, I quickly looked at Jonathan bar brook and his types. I found and idea from previous research I had to try witch was just having a go and trying random things out, I had a lot of reflecting back and fourth to pull my ideas together. As more experiments go on I looked at the canvas and sewing witch was fun as it was physical work. After that was my next idea developing, my first barbed wire idea was introduced, this was important as it exednup being the initial type. I had found better ways to spin the wire, first trying adding the barbed bits. Along the way I got used to specific ways of doing it. At this point I wanted to expand my chain to bracelet, I was loving this as it was apart of my interests. Working with wire is very fiddly and was hard to get around, I tried better wire and more ways of exacuting the idea, referencing and reflecting on all developments and analysis. I had started experiments on all my ideas. This new wire I bought extended the ablutity of what I could achieve by then I had my head screwed on to the idea, had my type made and worked on my idea, I had explain what I wanted to do and my process’s. I show my progress of what I’ve done and what I’m onto.

I had them to get all my photos of the clothes on and off, edit my images and cut out the alphabet, all I needed to do then it put it all together. This process involved a lot of physical testing.

Editing my image I used photoshop for the most parts then I did some extras for the 3D images on premier pro. I had cut out the letters I need to spell out the words for the words in the final images. It didn’t take too long, was just a lot of cutting out and testing, I happily edited the photos on top of each other.
