My project started with the brief, I vaguely understood it at first. I knew straight away I was to get on with my transformation research. I wrote myself a mini proposal after my understanding of the brief to guide myself onto what to do next, I mapped out my thoughts and everything I could think of to do with transformation. I spent time grasping what I could, this helped having these transformation types as it boosts my ideas.

In my research I looked in depth into themes of transformation, I really benefitted from reading the themes as I gain more knowledge about how transformation is is used in specific ways, e.g. talking about the social and political outcomes for ‘real world transformations’. I got an insight into the ‘agents of transformation’ the ‘Who, Why, What and How’, the process, and the characteristics of transformation. More of my research included the marketing side, different design aspects and how they improve the branding side of transformation. Again it was helpful to look at this information as I gain more general knowledge of transformation.

I had received a small brief to explore the transformation of playing cards. Like usual I liked into it, finding examples. I put some first thoughts down and looking at the options. We did some pattern transformations for light practice. I then got straight to the point and started playing with some cards, I bought many packs and started with some simple transformations, this could include using the different symbols and mixing up the cards. Here I thought origami was a great product of transformation, I did a cute little frog and looked at other ways to use cards. Next was some proper hand rendered with pen. This was transforming what I could using what was on the card. I expanded this more with trying digitally rendered, it was great to try another medium./

I wanted to step up the thought process a bit. I had some inspirations and managed to go gather some more improved, detailed set of ideas. I stretched further with my ideas using what I could on the the card, I loved being able to do more thought through improved ideas and was a great eye opener. Following our pattern work we did some graphical versions, here we look at different techniques, first with the digitally rendered pattens, but secondly some shading techniques to get my physical skills up. Looking towards some more outcomes we did a bit of port right work, this was by hand as we do profile and sides of ourselves. It worked out wells as I was able to practice the shading techniques more.

Before the ideas progressed I wanted to get on with some more research on artist who have done transformation. on this hand we looked at artists that had transformed old masterpieces. This also looked into the very interesting Guerrilla Girls. I wanted to take on more of the artists transformations, so I thought id do the same and try the same. I did some sampling of the artists, and it ended to be really fun and I benefited from taking on the thought process’s of the artists. I then looked at adjusters and how they make an impact on companies, and the transformation of the adjuster. I did the same thing with the artists and had ago myself witch was even better and a joy to do. Adjusters could be a great transformation outcome.

My next set of research looked into playing card related transformations done by artisits, theres have been very popular. I was able to read into the artist and his process of the transformations, this obviously positive impacted my process. I was able to analyse and reflect what they do. For one of the artists I did another reaction. It was a ben swift style portrait and having previous knowledge of illustrator I liked it very much and it came out very well.

I continued with some more illustration practice and some more playing card subjects. My next step was very interesting, it intersects with the previous typography knowledge. It was great looking at another type of transformation. I reflected on in design looking at how I could adapt my type for future.
